OUR AIM: to create the first permanent archive and museum of British occult and esoteric history, located in the north of England.

Britain has a rich magical legacy. and we want to capture, preserve and present the rich diversity and history of our magical practices. We want to display these items that whisper our stories, in an educational way to modern practitioners and the general public, and bring back a sense of wonder to our world.

 

We have already achieved an important first step towards a museum: We have taken a room that will be used as an archive and where our growing collection will be properly documented. By the end of 2026 we hope to be able to allow researchers and historians access to it.

 

For over 400 years, people who dared to be different have practised secret esoteric, magical, and occult traditions. this is especially true in the North of England, which became an esoteric hotbed in Victorian times.​

 

From the witch trials at Pendle Hill, to the rise of modern witchcraft, to the Golden Dawn’s 1888 temple's in Bradford and London, and the birth of Chaos Magic in Leeds nearly a century later, our country is full of extraordinary stories.

 

Behind Custodia Borealis lies a dedicated team of historians, writers, collectors, and museum professionals volunteering their time to make this vision a reality.​

 

We Are establishing a charity and will be seeking grants and funding. With momentum already building, we want to gauge and grow wider community support.​
